Course Goals

Hello!
After reading over the syllabus, I think I have a good idea of what I would like to get out of the TE 401 language arts course. One of the most important goals I have is to gain a better understanding of my own literacy teaching philosophy and how I need to modify it to meet the needs of diverse learners. Seeing as though language arts is worked into almost every day’s class schedule, I hope that this course gives me ideas on how to create a classroom community that is both engaged and passionate about the subject. Since technology is not my forte, I am also interested to explore the different ways it can be integrated with language arts to help support students’ learning. Along with Catherine, I also hope to polish up on my own grammar, so I feel confident enough to teach it to others. Finally, I have a personal goal to stay organized (with Ashleigh) throughout the entire semester so that I never feel overwhelmed.
Hope everyone has a great day...see you all on Wednesday!! :)

A lot of people go into teaching with this idea that they made it all the way through college, so surely they can teach first grade. BUT, you have to really know the content deeply to be able to teach it well, and it sounds like you recognize that. I'm glad to hear that you are planning to network with colleagues to keep yourself on track- always a good plan.

After reading your post, I agree that gaining a better understanding of one's own literacy teaching philosophy and how one needs to modify it to meet the needs of diverse learners is extremely important in today's classrooms. Another strong point that you touched on is the growing influence of technology in the classroom, It is also a goal of mine to adjust to the growing advances in technology, and to be able to implement those into the classroom.

Developing better technology skills is very important because technology is all around us. I agree with you on meeting the needs of diverse learners because the classroom is a community and you want to make sure everyone feels comfortable in it. You are already a very organized person, the skills I learned are from you!
